Opportunities at Texas A&M University
TAMU
Undergraduate Research Fellows
The TAMU Undergraduate Research Fellows program
is offered though the Honors Office. This program is designed for
students entering their senior year that would like to do a research
project that will ultimately culminate in a Senior Honors Thesis.
This is a year long program. Applications are taken in the Spring
and you begin your research in the Fall. Students completing this
program are given special recognition at graduation and special
designations are added to your transcripts. If you are interested
in this program, talk to any of the TAMU faculty
involved with TiiMS to get an idea of what projects are available
for you to work on. Once you have identified who you want to work
for, you must write a proposal as part of the application process.
See the link above for complete details.
Another opportunity available to you is offered
through the Dwight Look College of Engineering and the Engineering
Academic Programs Office at Texas A&M Univeristy called the
Undergraduate Summer Research Program (USRP).
Applications may be downloaded here.
The completed application may be faxed to 979-847-8654,
emailed to t-wright@tamu.edu
or mailed to the address:

NASA
Langley Aerospace Research Summer Scholars Program (LARSS)
LARSS was established in 1986 for the benefit
of undergraduate juniors and seniors and first-year graduate students
who are pursuing degrees in aerospace engineering or selected aerospace-related
disciplines of interest to LaRC. There are two primary elements
of LARSS: a research project to be completed by each participant
under the supervision of a researcher who will assume the role of
a mentor for the summer and attendance at technical lectures by
prominent engineers and scientists. For the 10 week program, the
pay is $4,500 for undergraduate students and $5,000 for graduate
students. Please look at this brief
presentation by Leslie Weitz regarding her experience in the
2004 LARSS Program.
Nanotechnology and Materials Systems
Reseach Experiences for Undergraduates (REU)
TiiMS and Texas A&M University was recently
awarded a three year grant by the National Science Foundation (NSF)
to provide opportunities for outstanding rising juniors and seniors
in engineering, physics, chemisty, or biology to conduct research
in the area of Nanotechnologies and Materials Systems. This NSF
REU site will host approximately 13 undergraduate students and provide
an exiciting and challenging summer research experience.
These students will be mentored by faculty and
researchers who are very active in the fields of nanotechnology
and nanoscience. Each REU student will also be assigned a graduate
student mentor to encourage and assist in their research efforts.
The summer research session will span from early June to August
and will also include seminars, laboratory tours, and field trips
to regional government research facilities and high-tech industry
collaborators. Participants will receive a stipend of $3,500 plus
an allowance for room and board during the 10 week summer session.
Currently, we are utilizing the TAMU USRG application
process for the initial round of REU applicants. To apply, students
should complete the TAMU USRG application including letters of recommendation
and transcripts. Make sure that you indicate under research areas
of interest that you are applying for "REU Site - Nanotechnology
and Materials Systems".
Applications may be downloaded here.
The completed application may be faxed to 979-847-8654,
